In the connector industry, various technical terms are not easily known to a normal person. These terms are used as per the military standards and specifications. Every military connector has its nature and specifications. They are designed and demanded by the type of their nature that is to meet all the military standards.

These military MIL grade connectors are often referred to as “Military Standard” and defined by the codes MIL-STD or MIL-SPEC connectors. Let us have a look at some most common specifications of Military Connectors.

    MIL-DTL-38999

These are the environmentally resistant connectors, previously known as MIL-C-38999. These connectors are made of a series of four connectors that are comprised of three types of coupling mechanisms known as bayonet, threaded, and Breech Lok coupling. They use removable crimp contact and can be operated in the range of -65 to +200°C.

    MIL-DTL- 26482

These are bayonet lock connectors, previously known as MIL-C-26482. It comprised of two series, series 1 (solder) and series 2(crimp). Both of these series cover all the requirements for 2 series of miniature, quick disconnect, environment resisting, electrical circular connectors, and their accessories. The series when used standard contacts, they are intermateable whereas when used with shielded contacts, they become non-intermateable.

All the types and classes of this connector are utilized in environment-resisting situations and they can be operated in the temperature range of -55 to -125°C.

    MIL-DTL-5015

It is a circular connector, previously known as MIL-C-5015. MIL-DTL-5015 standard is comprised of front and rear release crimp contacts as well as solder contacts. This industrial connector is widely used in industrial, civil, and defense applications. They also have a wide range of usage in electrical power, electronic, and control circuits. This circular connector type is very versatile and reliable and is readily available. The operating range of this connector entirely depends on its class and can be operated in the temperature range of -55°C to either 125°C, 175°C, or 200°C.

    MIL-DTL-24308

This standard was formerly known as MIL-C-24308. They describe non-environmental, polarised shell, rack, and panel, miniature connectors with pin and socket, solder (non-removable), insulation displacement (non-removable), or crimp (removable) float-mounting or rigid mounting brackets. They can be operated in the temperature range of -55°C to 125°C.

This connector has different classes represented as G, N, D, K, M, H that are used in various military applications at different temperature ranges.

    MIL-DTL-83513

The MIL-DTL-83513 specification, previously known as MIL-C-83513, describes micro-miniature, polarized shell rectangular connectors. This connector type has solder or non-removable crimp contacts and is considered very hard-wearing and long-lasting. Due to their tough compositions, they are used in military harsh environments. They have high electric strength, high current capability, low contact resistance, and high resistance to vibration and shock. Also, they are very light in weight and small in size with a high density of pins.

These connectors are also called as D-Connectors. They are used in various applications like radars, shoulder-launched weapons, military GPS, medical equipment, satellites, drilling tools, advanced soldier technology, and aerospace avionics applications due to their lightweight and small size.
